Africa-Press – Angola. The former President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, praised, this Saturday, President João Lourenço’s commitment to women in leadership positions in the country.

The former President of Liberia, who was speaking to the press at 4 de Fevereiro Airport, said that Angola is to be congratulated for having women occupying senior positions in the Executive and in the National Assembly.

Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf added that whenever she is on a world stage, she will refer to Angola as an example to follow in terms of investing in women in leadership positions.

“I want to thank President João Lourenço. I am flattered and grateful for the invitation, as it would not be possible if I did not authorize it. I want to thank you for the position you took when it came to women, ”she reinforced.

Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf reinforced that the 1st International Women’s Forum for Peace and Democracy left every woman motivated.

With regard to the forum, she highlighted the presence of women from various parts of the world and the fact that it made it possible to publicize the existence of the Network of Women in Africa, of which she is the patron.

“We want to see women developed in the areas of finance, agriculture, among others”, he stressed, highlighting Angola as one of the best examples, where there is a woman Vice-President of the Republic and a President of the National Assembly, a contribution that is intended to be continuous, in to help encourage more women.

Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf governed Liberia from 2006 to 2018, as President of the Republic. Between 1979 and 1980 she was Minister of Finance, Planning and Development.

In 2011, she won the Nobel Peace Prize for her work in the fight for women’s safety and rights.
