Africa-Press – Angola. Ermelindo da Silva Gonçalves Pereira, 45 years old and an engineer by profession, was elected, this Tuesday, second secretary of the MPLA in the province of Luanda.

Until then first secretary of the MPLA in the municipality of Luanda, Ermelindo Pereira surpassed, with 133 votes, the former Secretary of State for Youth and Master’s student in Governance and Public Administration, Fernando Francisco, who obtained 87 votes.

The chosen one, at the first extraordinary meeting of the MPLA provincial committee in Luanda, thanked the trust placed in him and was predisposed to work to reinforce the organization and internal cohesion of the party, as well as to contribute to the recovery of the mystique of the party in the Angolan capital.

The first provincial secretary of the MPLA in Luanda, Manuel Homem, considered it urgent to rescue the interaction with the grassroots and the militant and voluntary feeling.

Manuel Homem exhorted the reformulation of militant action according to the needs of the party, making the MPLA stronger and closer to the people.

The general secretary and coordinator of the monitoring group of the MPLA Political Bureau secretariat for Luanda province, Paulo Pombolo, considered the election of the new second secretary to be a continuation of the process of deepening and consolidating democracy within the party.

Paulo Pombolo declared that his party is like a family where everyone is essential for its reaffirmation, with the main challenge being the electoral victory in 2027, particularly in Luanda.

In the general elections of last August, the MPLA won two of the five deputies to the National Assembly in the provincial constituency of Luanda.
