The Minister of Education said, this Tuesday, in the municipality of Soyo, province of Zaire, that the attention of the Executive is turned to the rehabilitation, expansion and construction of new schools, with the corresponding equipping of desks, laboratory equipment and other means technologies that can facilitate research and teaching in the country.
Luísa Grilo, who was speaking during the central act of the National Educator’s Day, celebrated this year under the motto “The transformation of education begins with the teacher”, urged, on the other hand, education professionals to redouble their efforts and dedicate with soul and competence in the pedagogical tasks.
“It is necessary that the cadres do not let themselves be affected by momentary difficulties, nor by discouragement and continue to be guided by conduct in ethics, decorum and the highest standards of social morality”, said the minister in the act, witnessed by the deputy governor of Zaire for the political, social and economic sector, Afonso Nzolameso.
The goal, he advanced, is to transform education in a way that it is able to respond to the new challenges. “The teacher’s transformation must begin at the level of thinking, strategies and ways of organizing teaching, as well as the relational and emotional bond he establishes with students”.
The Executive, he added, is working to give the teacher the role of protagonist in the transformation of education. To materialize this task, the focus has been on training and improving working conditions.
“Teachers need a salary and subsidies that are attractive and motivating, to progress in their careers through fair evaluation, through meritocracy, as well as more opportunities to live with dignity and the height and dimension of their role in society”, indicated.
The Education sector, he recalled, has invested in the initial and in-service training of teachers, in order to provide teachers with more opportunities for development and professional skills, predominantly centered on improving teaching practices and pedagogical coordination at school. The minister also informed that, as part of the process of digitizing Education, the “Xilonga” Virtual School was launched, for distance learning modalities. High school”.
Another ongoing process, he highlighted, is the updating of salary categories, through the promotion process, an activity that has already benefited more than 135,000 teachers. “Building an environment that harmonizes the aspirations of quality education and teaching and the appreciation of teachers is a task that the Executive has assumed and from which it will not resign”, he said.
Ministry refutes receipt of strike notice
The Ministry of Education revealed, yesterday, that the portfolio holder had not received any official information about a possible strike by the Teachers Union (SINPROF) and said there were no reasons for such an act.
Luísa Grilho, who was speaking in the municipality of Soyo, on the sidelines of the main act of Educator’s Day, assured Rádio Nacional de Angola that the Angolan Executive continues to work to address the various complaints from teachers.
The Minister of Education also informed that there are no reasons for the strike, announced by SINPROF for today, and, despite not having received an official document of a possible act of suspension of classes, the channels of dialogue with the union are open .
“The Executive is working to equate the main points contained in the Statement of Claims and some of them have already been equated”, he said, in addition to adding that they met, last Friday, with the union and decided to maintain the commitment of permanent dialogue. ” We have not yet received any written information about the strike.”
