The creation of the National Cyber Security Center, the awareness of state and private institutions about the need for specialized departments in cyber defense and corporate risks linked to information technology are premises for the Angolan State to defend itself against potential attacks and computer crimes.
The information was provided, in Luanda, by CyberSecure’s cyber defense specialist, Filipe Quitete, at the end of a training session for journalists, carried out within the framework of the awareness program on information security, computer crimes and concepts, in the antechamber of a summit scheduled for next month.
Filipe Quitete valued the fact that the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in his State of the Nation speech, emphasized cybersecurity in order to avoid damages inherent to internal and external crimes with the use of technologies, much of which can bring significant economic losses. and social.
The expert said that Angola is still at an incipient stage in terms of cybersecurity, but the growth in the number of digital operations requires the existence of companies with broad domain in the field, otherwise we will be very vulnerable to the bad guys “hackers”. ” who are always looking for new methods to extort values or create moral damages to third parties, hence ” CyberSecurity is ready to be part of this desired growth”.
“The increase in the level of communication that will be provided by the entry into full operation of our satellite, Angosat 2, will also increase the level of use of our technologies and, with it, the possibility of cyber attacks . It is urgent to think about what the creation of our National Cybersecurity Center will be in order to face these challenges that lie ahead”, he advanced.
As for international cybersecurity indices, Filipe Quitete said that Angola appears in a less good position, but could be improved due to the latest investments that have been made, while Morocco, as an African country, is in a more comfortable position in the ranking. International.
