Africa-Press – Angola. A total of 170 member states of the United Nations (UN), with emphasis on Angola, are meeting in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand, to analyze the evolution and implications of chemical substances that contribute to the depletion of the Ozone Layer.According to the press release from the Angolan embassy in Kenya, Sianga Abílio will speak on Thursday, where he will present Angola’s contribution to the treatment and progressive elimination of gaseous waste, which is harmful to the Ozone Layer.
During the meeting, which ends on Friday, the document states, the signatories of the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer will discuss protection mechanisms.
It is important to highlight that the Republic of Angola has already chaired a Conference of the Parties on the Ozone Layer (COP), which brought together representatives from 173 UN member countries, which took place in 2011, in the city of Bali, Indonesia.
The Ozone Layer acts as a barrier to the passage of 95 percent of ultraviolet rays, preventing them from reaching the earth and, especially, human, animal and plant life, which are biotic agents in the food chain.
