Experts recommend adopting post-crisis strategies

Africa-Press – Angola. National and international experts in the fisheries sector recommend the immediate adoption of post-crisis policies and strategies for developing countries, focused on the recovery and building of socio-economic resilience, said the Minister of Industry and Commerce in Luanda.

Victor Fernandes spoke at the end of the training seminar organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), on the development of the blue economy.

The minister acknowledged that, in the case of Angola, for the fishing sector to have greater results, the Executive is betting on the development of the productive capacities of the economy as a whole, with a view to structural transformation, as the center of policies and strategies.

As for the measures, Victor Fernandes highlighted that in the current political context, there is a need for Angola to sustainably explore all natural resources, including fisheries and the blue economy in general.

According to the Minister of Industry and Commerce, marine and freshwater resources are strategically important elements in the diversification of the economy, job creation and poverty reduction, without affecting environmental sustainability.

Still on the result of the training action aimed at staff in the fisheries sector, which he acknowledged saying, the training and capacity building action for staff in the fisheries and aquaculture sector ended yesterday, was an added value, particularly with great merit for bringing together experts high-level national and international technicians from the various sectors of activity, who jointly addressed the problems of the blue economy. Also during the training cycle, according to Victor Fernandes, it became clear that fishing is a sector with considerable potential for improving the population’s quality of life.

“Fish and fishery products are among the most important dynamic products, especially for less advanced countries, so Angola intends to continue to develop the fishing sector and increase exports in terms of varieties”, underlined Victor Fernandes . .

The training took place within the joint program with the European Union through the “Train for Trade II” program, held between the 17th and 21st.
