Africa-Press – Angola. The Ministry of Territory Administration will analyze the possibility of extending the deadline for the Official Electoral Registration, after the concern raised yesterday by university students during a meeting with government authorities in Luanda.
According to Minister Marcy Lopes, the extension of the process “obeys criteria”, explaining that the deadlines in progress at this time stem from the Law, as they began on September 23, 2021 and will extend until March 31.
According to the official, any change in terms of deadlines requires consultation between the various parties involved in the Unofficial Electoral Registration process.
In turn, Fernando Paixão, National Director for the Unofficial Electoral Registration, recalled that it is necessary to comply with this legal imperative in order to then assess the advances and setbacks.
He referred that the meeting made it possible to take information to the university community, made up of a significant number of young people, who will participate for the first time in the voting process, with emphasis on those who turn 18 by the date of the elections. He assured that the Ministry of Territory Administration will intensify communication actions, so that Angolans of electoral age register and are able to fulfill this duty of citizenship.
The official said that the provinces of Luanda, Moxico and Cuanza-Norte lead access to posts, while Joaquim Caiombo, president of the Association of Private Education Institutions in Angola (AE-UPA), asked the authorities to extend the deadlines, as close to 60 percent of the university community has not yet updated the voter registration.
