The head of the Deputy General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces for Patriotic Education, General João António Santana “Lungu”, yesterday, in Luanda, praised the importance of peace in the current historical context of the country and appealed to Angolans to work in a spirit of union.
“We need to cultivate the values of the homeland and keep alive the example of all those who gave their lives to guarantee peace”, said the FAA general, during the lecture alluding to the 20th anniversary of the Day of Peace and National Reconciliation, which marks next Monday.
For General Lungu, history must be told and written by all the protagonists of the armed conflict, in order to allow the new generations the real knowledge of the causes of the same and the main gains achieved with its definitive establishment in the country.
Throughout the dissertation, as a lecturer, retired general Matias Lima Coelho “Zumbi” spoke in detail about the military path and the process that culminated in the signing of the Memorandum of Peace and National Reconciliation in 2002, in the province of Moxico.
Zumbi, one of the most fearless generals of the FAA who participated directly in the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale and in the last fighting that ended with the establishment of peace throughout the territory, highlighted the maturity of the Angolans in having ended the war, without foreign interference.
The head of the Deputy General Staff of the Angolan Armed Forces for the Operational and Development Area, General Abreu Kamorteiro, also said that the maintenance of definitive peace is everyone’s mission.
The commander of the National Air Force, General Altino dos Santos, said that Angolans must continue to fight for the maintenance of peace, stressing that the diversity of ideas cannot be synonymous with war, but with sustainable development.
