Families receive chicks for breeding and reproduction

Africa-Press – Angola. Ten thousand Boschveld chicks were distributed Wednesday to 800 vulnerable families in the municipalities of Caála and Longonjo, Huambo province, for breeding and reproduction.

This is an initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, within the scope of the project to Promote Poultry Production in rural communities.

Veterinary doctor África Félix said, on the occasion, that the initiative essentially aims to empower families residing in rural areas, for a combination of poultry and agricultural production, with a focus on strategies to combat poverty.

He referred to be a free project defined to help the families to be self-sustainable, through the promotion of poultry farming in a short time.

He informed that the municipalities of Caála and Longonjo closed the first cycle of distribution of birds of the Boschveld breed in the province of Huambo, which started in January of the current year.

So far, a total of 60,000 chicks of the Boschveld species of Zimbabwean origin have been distributed in Huambo province, resulting from the crossing of local chickens “ovambo, wemba and matebele”.
