Africa-Press – Angola. The First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, appealed, Saturday, in Luanda, to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to pay greater attention to the cinema and audiovisual sector, so that national productions are valued first in the country, contrary to what has occurred in recent years.
The appeal came during the gala of the second edition of the Unitel Angol Move Festival, held in Luanda, attended by the head of the Culture and Tourism portfolio, Filipe Zau, in which the film “Mwana Nketo”, by Satanha Cinéfilo, won feature film category, entitled to a prize of 10 million kwanzas.
Ana Dias Lourenço encouraged, on the other hand, national entrepreneurs to give more support to directors and producers who give proof of cinematographic work, to leverage the national film industry. “These young people, directors, actors and technicians, have already shown that they are capable and have a lot of creativity”, said the First Lady of the Republic, as she took the stage to announce the winning film in the feature film category.
The gala, broadcast by the Public Television of Angola, ran for two hours, and had cultural entertainment by dancers and singers on stage, such as Yola Semedo and C4 Pedro.
Kerllem Costa’s film “Kwando”, by director Kerllem Costa, won in the documentary category and “Lola & Mami – a fragment of love”, by Resem Verkrom, won in the short film category, each with a prize of 5 million kwanzas
The award for Best Actor went to Lévis Tvekelekwa, protagonist of the film “Mwana Nketo”, Cláudia Púkuta snatched the Best Actress award for the film “Nossa Senhora da Loja do Chinês”, both with the right to one million kwanza, and Kerllen Costa who won one million and 500 thousand kwanzas, for the Best Director award, for competing with the documentary produced by National Geographic.
Actress Vanda Pedro was the honored figure, in the Recognition Award category, in Theater. The actress, who became famous in the series Conversas no Quintal, from TPA, received two million kwanzas.
In this second edition, winners in the “Digital Audiovisual Media” category were won by Sarchel Necesio (Platina Line), for the “YouTube” format, with the right to two million kwanzas, Fly Skuad (Fly Podcast with Nagrelha “O Estado Maior do Kuduro”), for the PodCast format, and RRPL (RRPL “Brazzha VS Valdemar”) for Entertainment Video, the last two each one million kwanzas.
Videos in the “YouTube” format were evaluated by the number of subscriptions, while the videos in the format, Best Entertainment and Best Pod Cast were evaluated by the number of views, without any intervention by the jury, in compliance with the parameters of the regulation of the Unitel Angola Festival move.
The spokeswoman and member of the jury, broadcaster Carla Castro, when reading the report of the jury, said that 15 films reached the final stage of the competition, five works in each of the three cinematographic categories, namely documentary, short and feature film.
These works, said the member of the jury, were submitted in two phases of voting, in accordance with subparagraph “E” of the regulation, in which the first phase of voting was carried out by the members of the jury, with a maximum score equivalent to 50 percent. , and the second phase of the vote, which is the responsibility of viewers (the public), who voted via telephone messages (SMS), until 11 pm on the 6th of this month.
He added that the Unitel Angola Move Festival added, in this second edition, the following sub-categories: Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress, whose voting depended on the viewers, via telephone messages (SMS).
Jury Appeal
The jury formed by Asdrúbal Rebelo (president), Carla Castro, Edson Macedo, Francisco Keth and Ilda Abdala emphasized that the works produced in previous years, and which had never been officially shown to the public, were considered valid, “because they belong to the public domain that the date of artistic works is valid from the year of its public presentation, that is, from the date of premiere, and not from the period in which they were produced or recorded”.
The regulation admits films whose director has Angolan nationality, although foreign technicians or actors may be included in the production team.
Although the jury recognized that there was an increase in national cinematographic productions, in the field of fiction, it considered that most of these films – their authors – need to improve the dramatic structure of the argument (the story), excel in the technical aspects of grammar and plastic language of cinema.
On the other hand, the jury advised those who produce documentary “to observe a greater thematic, artistic and technical investment in this pioneering genre of the Seventh Art, avoiding tangential approaches, lack of research, and partiality, giving rise to the complex perception between documentary and great report”.
