Fifth Decoration Ceremony Marks 50 Years of Independence

Africa-Press – Angola. The fifth awards ceremony, part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of National Independence, concluded on Wednesday in Luanda.

The ceremony, which lasted two days, honored more than 700 people, both individuals and groups.

The event was presided over by the Head of State, João Lourenço, who awarded medals to the honorees in the categories of Independence as well as Peace and Development, in recognition of their contributions to the country’s development.

The ceremony brought together men and women who, over the years, have provided significant service in the areas of social, health, culture, military, sports, religion, media, among others, with a significant presence and representation of figures linked to Angolan journalism, including professionals in the field of national languages.

Among those honored, were the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Remar, a religious institution dedicated to the recovery of drug addicts, cardiologist Mário Fernandes, Lieutenant General Simão Wala, the commander of the Central Military Region, the governor of Cuanza-Sul, Narciso Benedito, the Minister of Public Administration, Labor and Social Security (MAPTSS), Teresa Dias, as well as football players Osvaldo Roque “Joni”, Marito and Manucho Gonçalves.

This fifth ceremony that was held at one of the hotels in the country’s capital, recognized and celebrated Angolan youth as a driving force for development, highlighting their role as innovators, creators, entrepreneurs, students, professionals, agents of social transformation and guardians of the ideals of freedom, peace and progress, fundamental to the cohesion and affirmation of the Nation.
