Africa-Press – Angola. Twelve athletes from Academia Leão do Xangongo, municipality of Ombadja, in the province of Cunene, will participate in the unified National Championship for seniors, juniors and fighting cadets, taking place from the 20th to the 21st of the current month, in Luanda.

There are 11 male and one female athletes, weighing 46, 58, 65 and 69 kg, who are in the last phase of preparation for a worthy representation of the region, in the event that will be attended by the country’s 18 provinces.

The information was provided this Friday, in Ondjiva, by the president of the Ombadja Municipal Fighting Association, Nicolau Makango.

In his first appearance in 2022, he said, Cunene had four athletes, who came in third and fourth place.

He highlighted, however, that in this participation (second) hard work is being done to obtain a good classification.

He informed that conditions are being created, especially transport for the delegation of 14 members, including two leaders.

The modality, it should be noted, involves three types of disciplines, namely, freestyle, professional and Roman Greek wrestling.

The Ombadja Municipal Fighting Association only controls the Academia Leão do Xangongo, created in 2009, which has 35 athletes, in the senior, junior and cadet categories.

It is intended, however, to expand the modality next year, to the remaining municipalities in the province, such as Cuanhama, Cahama, Namacunde, Cuvelai and Curoca.
