Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, defended on Thursday (11), in Luanda, the need for Angola to take advantage of the significant number of women of working age and strengthen their empowerment for the country’s development.
Ana Dias Lourenço made this statement while speaking at the International Congress on Assertive Leadership, saying that the country should take advantage of its demographic dividend by making it profitable, with the generation of wealth and employment.
She stressed that in the last decade this dividend has already begun to decrease, having gone from a ratio of 2 to 1.82.
This reduction is more pronounced in women, who register a higher life expectancy of 67.14 years compared to 62.1 years for men, that is, with a difference of 5 years.
According to the First Lady of Angola, taking advantage of this opportunity provided by the demographic dividend, considering that a large part of its population is of working age, implies investing in people, in the creation of decent jobs and in the development of human capital.
In her speech, she analyzed the population data recently published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), recalling that Angola has approximately 36.6 million inhabitants, of which 18.8 million are women, representing 51% of the population.
She stressed that the country maintains a markedly young structure, where 32% of citizens are under 10 years old, while 75% are under 25 years old. “Angola’s greatest wealth is its youth,” she emphasized.
She also highlighted that the fertility rate continues to decline and it is projected that the country could reach approximately 70 million inhabitants in 2050, practically doubling the current population.
