Africa-Press – Angola. he sporting career of former handball player José Amaral Júnior “Maninho” was immortalized in a book entitled “My long journey in handball, from the courts to leadership”.

The work with more than 230 pages, released Tuesday at the Sports Gallery, in Luanda, has eight chapters portraying long decades at the service of the sport, from the first contacts to becoming president of the Angolan Handball Federation.

The book brings, among others, illustrations of the best moments he lived in the clubs he spent as well as in the national teams, with emphasis on the senior men’s handball teams of Petro de Luanda and 1o de Agosto.

The preface, written by Sardinha de Castro, former Minister of Youth and Sports, mentions that the publication of the work is an act of citizenship and that its testimonial value will forever remain as a historical landmark, as it brings a ray of light on facts and events.

The act was attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Palmira Barbosa, as well as several figures from the sport and sport in general, with emphasis on Mário de Oliveira, former teammate and current Minister of Telecommunications Information and Communication Technologies Social.

José do Amaral Júnior, known in sports as “Maninho MM”, was born in 1963, in the province of Luanda. He started practicing handball at the General Geraldo Victor Preparatory School.

He took a journalism course at the Karl Marx Institute, currently the Medium Institute of Economics in Luanda (IMEL), where he even taught English.

He is currently a senior official at Sociedade Mineira do Catoca, having previously worked at the South African Embassy in Angola and as a journalist, his original profession.
