Africa-Press – Angola. Francisco Higino Lopes Carneiro, the former governor of Luanda and Cuando Cubango, was questioned on Tuesday at the National Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Action (DNIAP). He is accused of embezzlement and aggravated fraud in two cases.
Last week, the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) formally charged the former governor in cases 46/19 and 48/20. Both cases involve alleged irregularities in his duties as head of the provincial executive branch.
Case 46/19 concerns the misuse of public funds for personal expenses during his time as head of the government in the former province of Cuando Cubango, which constitutes embezzlement.
Case 48/20 concerns aggravated fraud for receiving more than 60 vehicles from a private company while serving as governor of Luanda without paying for them and subsequently distributing the vehicles to third parties.
According to sources close to the case, the purpose of this hearing is to clarify irregular management acts during the former governor’s tenure.
No details have been released yet about the next steps in the investigation, but the DNIAP expects to issue an official statement on the preliminary results.
