Africa-Press – Angola. The United Patriotic Front (FPU), composed of UNITA and the Democratic Bloc, expressed, this Wednesday, 30, “great concern” about the acts of chaos, looting and vandalism of public property that have occurred in the provinces of Luanda, Icolo and Bengo since July 28, and Huambo and Benguela since yesterday.
According to a statement released, the two parties expressed solidarity with taxi drivers and the Angolan population, who they believe are suffering the effects of a serious economic and social crisis, attributed to inadequate public policies and poor government governance.
UNITA and the Democratic Bloc emphasize that violence is never the best way to resolve social and economic conflicts, warning that the destruction of infrastructure deepens the suffering of the people and further weakens the few essential services that exist.
Faced with the disruption of social order, the FPU appealed for calm and discernment among citizens, urging the population, especially young people, not to allow themselves to be manipulated or to engage in practices that could compromise their future and that of Angola.
The parties reaffirmed their commitment to peace, freedom, the dignity of citizens, and the construction of a fair, democratic, and developed Angola.
At the end of the statement, the parties deeply regretted the fatalities, both civilians and a National Police officer, that occurred during the protests, and expressed solidarity with the bereaved families.
