The Portuguese ambassador to Angola highlighted the efforts of José Eduardo dos Santos in consolidating the bilateral relationship between Portugal and Angola and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) in a message of condolences on the death of the former President.
he Portuguese Ambassador to Angola, Francisco Alegre Duarte, left a message of condolences following the death of José Eduardo dos Santos, in which he highlights the efforts to consolidate the bilateral relationship between Portugal and Angola, as well as to deepen cooperation with the CPLP promoted by the former leader.
Here is the message in full:
“It was with deep dismay that I received the news of the death of the former President of the Republic of Angola, José Eduardo dos Santos.
In this hour of national mourning, I express to the Government of Angola, and to all the Angolan People, my heartfelt condolences and my deepest condolences.
I would like to highlight the role of President José Eduardo dos Santos in consolidating Angola’s independence and national unity, in a very difficult geopolitical context, as well as his leadership in achieving peace, in reconciling all Angolans after a devastating war, and in country reconstruction.
I underline the commitment of President José Eduardo dos Santos to the establishment and deepening of cooperation relations with Portugal, both in bilateral terms and within the framework of the CPLP. Together we have come a long way, until we reach the current point of excellence in relations between two friendly countries and peoples, united by fraternity, a goal to which the leadership and vision of President João Lourenço have contributed greatly.
I ask that this message be transmitted to the family of former President José Eduardo dos Santos.”
