Africa-Press – Angola. The Gambos Municipal Administration, in Huíla, is supporting, with food, the family that lost two members on Tuesday, due to intoxication, after accidental consumption of massambala that had a type of insecticide, yet to be identified.

It is a kind of insecticide purchased in informal markets, used by communities to protect food from birds, before and after harvesting, especially the so-called “Angola chicken”.

When crushing the massambala to make flour, supposedly, the children were not careful to wash it, which made them consume it with that product, having caused intoxication in the five members of the family, two of whom died.

One of the fatal victims is a 70-year-old man (grandfather) and his 12-year-old grandson, who will be buried this Friday at the cemetery in the village of Ndjehi, in the commune of Chiange, where they resided, while the other three members, the grandmother, 64, and two other grandchildren, are receiving medical assistance and medication at the local hospital.

The local administrator, Francisco Barros Leonardo, referred that the administration had already acquired the coffins and the funerals took place this Friday, in the cemetery near the village.

He detailed that they are also supporting the family with transport to facilitate their displacement to solve the problems of the burial, as well as the three who are still in the hospital.

After that incident, said the administrator, the administration plans to carry out a series of actions and raise awareness in the communities, to prevent situations of this kind.

He referred to be the first case that the administration is aware of death by intoxication of a poisonous product that should be used to kill insects harmful to human health such as rats, cockroaches and others.
