Africa-Press – Angola. The government is already working on the process of interconnecting the Eastern Region to the National Electric System to reduce the energy supply deficit in this part of the Angolan territory, announced the deputy governor of Moxico for Technical Services and Infrastructure, Wilson Augusto.

A national multisectoral technical group is working in the province of Moxico to implement the project, informed Wilson Augusto when speaking recently at a Business Fair, for the business class.

“We are now working with the national technical group, which worked on the interconnection of the North / South / Center System to the National System, to connect to the East”, he clarified to businessmen and the population who complain about the shortage of energy supply to Luena, due to constant breakdowns in Thermal Power Stations.

After interconnecting the provinces in the far North, Center and South of the country, the National Electric System remains to be extended to the eastern provinces (Moxico, Lunda Sul and Lunda Norte).

“There are things that no longer need to be said. We want practice. If you say that we are working on contracts, making tenders, it doesn’t matter much anymore”, said the person in charge, in an allusion that the project will have already gone through the administrative steps and, shortly, will move on to the practical implementation phase.

With regard to the installation work on the Luena Solar Energy Park, which has already reached 60 percent of physical execution and could be inaugurated within a year, he said that it will be added to the supply that comes from the National Electric System.

He assured that all ongoing projects are not mere intentions, on the contrary, it is a State commitment and within the framework of compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals, whose goal is to create Sustainable and Resilient Cities.

The supply of electricity to the city of Luena is ensured by Thermal Power Stations, which have reduced their capacity from 27 to 12 MW, due to faults in the generator sets, using over 19 thousand liters of fuel.

Angola assumes itself as a major hydroelectricity producing center, with the entry into operation of the Laúca power station, with the first turbine of that dam, with 334 MW of capacity, starting its commercial explanation in August 2017.

Laúca is an investment by the Angolan State valued at US$4.5 billion that could charge 2,70 MW to the national energy system.

The ongoing construction of Caculo Cabaça, in Cuanza Norte, and the completion of the expansion of the Luachimo power plant, in Lunda Norte, open up great expectations for Angola in the energy market.

The construction of this development on the Kwanza River began in 2012 and is part of the government’s structuring projects to facilitate the diversification of the economy.
