Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Lunda Norte, Deolinda Vilarinho, called this Monday for the reinforcement of actions to prevent and combat crimes of corruption, embezzlement, impunity, vandalism of public goods, as well as the protection of natural resources in the province.
The minister made this appeal during the opening of the week of legality, within the scope of the celebrations of the 44th anniversary of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), to be celebrated on the 27th of this month, under the motto “Prosecutor’s Office: Defense of the public interest and the fundamental rights of citizens in administrative justice”.
According to Deolinda Vilarinho, the defense of these interests, protected by law, is done not only with civil and criminal responsibility for offenders, but above all, with prevention, through a broad program of legal education, so that each citizen knows their legal rights and duties.
He added that it is essential that knowledge about the powers of the PGR be broadly explained to the population, as the main recipients of the action of this important State body, which ensures the defense of democratic legality, promotion of legal representation of the incapable, of collective and diffuse interests, between others.
In addition to raising the citizens’ legal culture, Deolinda Satula understands that it is essential to invest in the ongoing training of legal practitioners, including prosecutors, judges and lawyers.
“Today, the role of the Public Prosecutor’s Office is more notable in the fight against economic and financial crimes, with particular emphasis on crimes of corruption, embezzlement, money laundering and others”, he stressed.
He underlined that the PGR is not a static State body, alien to current social problems, dissociated from the evolution of society, it is, rather, a dynamic institution, capable of responding to today’s difficulties.
He encouraged local magistrates to continue to carry out their duties with zeal, dedication, determination and intrepidity, raising the legal culture of citizens in this territorial area even more.
During the legality week, the PGR in Lunda Norte will promote lectures on “The Public Ministry in Defense of Workers’ Rights”, “The Public Ministry in Defense of Mineral Resources”, as well as visits to the Cacanda Prison, cultural and sporting activities.
