The governor of the province of Bengo praised, on Saturday, in Caxito, the level of organization of the 3rd edition of the Tour of Angola by bicycle “Pepino 2024”, having congratulated the Angolan Cycling Federation (FACI) for the work it has been doing in favor of the development of the sport in the country.
Maria Antónia Nelumba, who was speaking in the municipality of Dande, after the penultimate stage of the race over a distance of 180 kilometres, between Nzeto and Caxito, finishing in Açucareira, encouraged FACI to fulfil the challenge it had set itself.
“We know that not everything is easy, but it was still possible to overcome all barriers to achieve our goals, both nationally and abroad”, he added, however, that the athletes who participated in the event should continue to give their all for the sport, with the aim of encouraging others to win medals, so that Angola can become an international reference in cycling.
Regarding cycling in Bengo, Maria Antónia Nelumba promised to support the sport in the province, stressing that cycling is a sport that can be practiced by everyone, citing as an example the late Alberto da Silva “Pepino”, who practiced cycling until he was 80 years old.
“We will support cycling to the extent we can. It is a sport that is good for our health. The eldest Pepino cycled until he was 80 years old. Therefore, it is a feat and I encourage everyone to follow the example of the Angolan cycling icon. The Tour of Angola by bicycle was a success”, he concluded.
