Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of Cuando Cubango province, José Martins, highlighted, Wednesday, in Menongue, the operationalization of the Social Protection Strengthening Program (KWENDA), which has so far benefited more than 18,000 households.gov

The government official, who was speaking at the traditional end-of-year greeting ceremony, referred that this action by the Executive is one of the gains, which is improving the quality of life of vulnerable families in Cuando Cubango.

He said they were households from the municipalities of Cuito Cuanavale and Cuchi, with the plan to expand, in 2023, the initiative to the municipalities of Cuangar, Dirico and Rivungo.

Social infrastructures

Of the gains, José Martins also highlighted the restart, this year, of the works in the centrality of Tucuve, whose first phase includes more than 200 apartments and other services.

The provincial manager pointed out the start, last August, of the project to deforest and earthwork the road that will connect the communal village of Licua to the commune of Luengue, Luengue-Mavinga, over a distance of over 200 kilometres.

José Martins said that the process continues from Mavinga towards the municipality of Cuito Cuanavale, on a journey of 210 kilometres, a job that is being carried out, for the first time, by the military engineering brigade.

The governor also highlighted the inauguration, this year, of the Cuchi-Cuito section, on the EN-280, a 53 kilometer route, a road that connects the province of Cuando Cubango with Huíla, on the west side.

José Martins said that the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities has started to be implemented in Cuando Cubango in a portfolio of 76 projects, of which 60 are in execution.

The 60 projects concern the construction of schools, professional training centres, health centers and posts, morgues, police stations, residences, installation of lightning rods and systems for capturing, treating and distributing water.

There is also the opening of new water holes, expansion of the electricity network, construction of community rafts, gardening and tree planting, acquisition of 65 vehicles already in service in the nine municipalities.

The PIIM projects under execution have already generated, in Cuando Cubango, 1,130 temporary jobs, essentially for young people, with 16 other actions currently requiring administrative procedures for their execution.

He explained that the 16 projects will give rise to the rehabilitation and equipping of the Menongue Municipal Football Stadium and the completion of four buildings with the same number of floors each, in Menongue.

These projects, according to the governor, will also result in the completion of the construction of boarding schools at the Technical School of Health, at the Technical Agrarian School in Menongue, along with other social facilities.

Benefits of PREI, FACRA, FADA and PAPE

The Informal Economy Reconversion Programme, through the Angolan Activo Capital Risk Fund and the Agrarian Development Support Fund, saw 70 micro-projects approved in Cuando Cubango.

In addition to the approval, according to José Martins, it was possible to register 12 thousand agents who moved from informality to formality and the Action Plan for the Promotion of Employability (PAPE).

With PAPE, he said, it was possible to distribute more than a thousand kits to young people, having generated more than six thousand jobs, all of which are summarized in PRODESI, that is, within the scope of economic relief, PAC, PREI, IRSM and in the PIDCR.

According to the governor, Cuando Cubango has 64 projects, distributed in all the programs mentioned above, with a cost above five billion Kwanzas.

The beneficiary agents are linked to the areas of trade, agriculture, product distribution and tourism, with emphasis on the recent delivery of 20 vehicles, 60 three-wheel motorbikes to rural operators.

He also underlined the distribution of 13 tractors and their implements to an equal number of ex-military cooperatives.

With this bet, José Martins hopes that the more than 100 thousand families involved in the 2022-2023 agricultural campaign will obtain larger harvests, through more than 200 thousand hectares of land, where it was possible to distribute more than 800 tons of different seeds and instruments .

The governor requested, on the occasion, greater dedication and collaboration from government managers and civil society, in general, so that future challenges are achieved, complying with the PND-2022-2027.
