Africa-Press – Angola. The provincial governor of Uíge, José Carvalho da Rocha, appealed on Tuesday (23) to the local population to report cases of illegal gold mining in the region, a measure aimed at strengthening the fight against this practice in the region.
The appeal was made during the ordinary session of the Uíge Provincial Government, which assessed social and economic issues in the province.
“I want to ask everyone to be the first to report and combat this practice,” the governor said.
He recalled that the province of Uíge is experiencing this problem intensely, which is why gold mining and other mining activities must be combated with all means.
José de Carvalho Rocha stated that the illegal exploitation of this mineral causes serious consequences for the environment.
In this regard, he said that the Provincial Government is working with the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Petroleum to establish small and medium-sized projects, a commitment he considered essential for local youth.
Therefore, he appealed to traditional authorities and others to engage in dialogue with young people and others, aiming to discourage this practice.
