Governor of Zaire wants to install surveillance systems on the border with DRC

Africa-Press – Angola. The governor of the province of Zaire, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, defended, this Tuesday in the municipality of Soyo, the installation of modern technological equipment along the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to discourage cross-border crimes.

When speaking at the opening ceremony of the 4th expanded meeting of the Northern Judicial Region of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, said that in this era there is an urgent need to monitor the province’s maritime, river and land borders with surveillance systems more sophisticated to facilitate greater interaction between defense and security bodies deployed at border limits.

For the governor, the fact that the province of Zaire shares a 310-kilometer border with the DRC, of which 150 rivers (Zaire River) encourage the commission of crimes of various kinds, with emphasis on illegal immigration, fuel smuggling and tax evasion.

“Fuel smuggling, for example, continues to be one of the main crimes recorded on the border with the neighboring country, hence our appeal to the competent authorities to reverse this situation”, he requested.

He added that the fuel that leaves the country illegally and in large quantities every day for the DRC corrodes the national economy and undermines the country’s development.

Four municipalities in the province of Zaire share a border with the DRC, namely Mbanza Kongo, Soyo, Nóqui and Cuimba, covering a length of 310 kilometers.
