According to Ricardo de Abreu, who was speaking on the sidelines of the 3rd International Cycle of Technical Railway Conferences Angola-RAIL 2025, the plan involves building railway lines and redefining others as part of the geostrategic transport and logistics project.
He considered the railway sector to be a crucial one in transforming and diversifying the country’s economy.
According to Ricardo de Abreu, structural projects are being prepared, such as the new Zenza do Itombe/Cacuso route, the Luena/Saurimo connection and the North and South corridor that interconnects the national railway.
As per the official, preparations are also underway to extend the Moçâmedes Railway to the East, in Menongue (Cubango provincial’s capital) and to the South, to the Republic of Namibia.
The minister also stressed that a public tender for the concession of the Southern corridor, covering the entire railway infrastructure of the Moçâmedes Railway, will be officially launched soon.
To this end, he said, the Government is counting on the private sector, and it is up to the State to create the legal and institutional environment conducive to ensuring that these investments yield returns for investors and the national economy.
