Africa-Press – Angola. The government of the province of Luanda (GPL) assumed on Friday the commitment to organize an annual International Swimming Meeting, in celebrations in the capital city.
According to the vice-governor for the social and political area of the City Hall, António Manuel, culture is a manifestation that contributes to the development of any country, hence the bet.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the first edition of the competition, which takes place at Piscina do Alvalade, he praised the initiative of the Provincial Swimming Association of Luanda and the Federation of the sport that joined the celebration of the 447th anniversary of the capital city.
For this reason, he added, the local government guarantees to frame the international event in the celebrations of the Kianda day, marked on the 25th of this month, contributing to Angola becoming increasingly known for its sporting achievements.
“With the children and young athletes present, we can make great men and women, who will be able to raise the name of our country very high”, he stressed.
On the other hand, the Secretary of State for Sport, Teresa Hulundo, expressed satisfaction with the initiative and referred that the Ministry of Youth and Sports will continue to provide institutional support to sports associations.
He encouraged those in charge of education who continue to take their children to practice sport in the various modalities.
The event, which started this Friday, ends on Sunday, on Luanda Island, with an open water race of 5,000 metres, 3,000 meters and 1,500 metres.
195 athletes participate in the competition, 12 from Mozambique and nine from Portugal.
