Africa-Press – Angola. The Grupo Desportivo Kak team won Monday, in Ondjiva (Cunene), the senior men’s futsal quadrangular, alluding to the 23rd of January, National Sports Day.

Grupo Desportivo Kak defeated Amigos de Futsal da Cahama in the final, by 5-1, after having won the opening game against the Education Cabinet, by 7-5.

The men’s basketball court was conquered by Higher Education, defeating Namacunde’s B team in the final, by 80-77. Before, they defeated Cadillac, by 84-65.

The 1st and 2nd classifieds of each tournament were awarded a cup, medal and a value of 70 thousand kwanzas each, by the Provincial Office of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports of Cunene.

On the occasion the director of the office in Cunene, Nelson Ndemulikuata, highlighted the importance of the competition, organized in salute to the National Sports Day, marked this Monday.

“The four-square aims to draw the attention of sports associations to promote activities of this kind and raise awareness among citizens about the need to practice sports frequently”, he said.

He informed that they are working to boost sport in the province, which faces difficulties with the lack of sports courts, to host indoor games, such as futsal, basketball, handball, among others.

He recalled that with the conclusion of the rehabilitation works of the multipurpose pavilion in Naipalala, and the other adjacent field, the teams will be better served.

The quadrangular, in both modalities, was played at the multi-sports field of Centralidade Dom Fernando Guimarães Kevano, in the Ekuma neighborhood.

The Provincial Office for Culture, Tourism and Youth and Sports controls eight sports associations, notably football, judo, futsal, handball and athletics.

The 23rd of January, National Sports Day, was established by the Angolan Government in consideration of the role that sport has assumed in society.
