Africa-Press – Angola. Leaders, Gaborone United (GU) dropped points for the first time in seven games as they were held a 2-2 draw by Morupule Wanderers on Tuesday.

In a game played under floodlights at the National Stadium, the Reds led 2-0 until the 68th minute. Thero Setsile scored his second GU goal in as many starts before Karabo Phiri doubled the advantage in the 18th minute. In the second, Wanderers staged a brave comeback away from home as lanky midfielder, Comfort Dikupa reduced the deficit in the 68th minute and five minutes later, Agripa Murimba leveled matters from a corner.

Despite playing to their first stalemate of the league campaign, Moyagoleele’s place at the top of the log remains intact. Prior, to yesterday’s game, GU were on six game winning streak, scoring 17 goals whilst conceding just twice. Breathing on GU’s neck, is their cross-town rivals, Township Rollers. Popa, in an earlier kick off yesterday against Prisons XI, emerged 2-0 victors, to reduce the lead to just four points. However, GU has played a game less than their rivals. The Blues are enjoying a purple patch under French tactician, Romain Folz. The team is on a three game winning run, whilst they are unbeaten in the four matches played this year.

Ironically, their last defeat was at the hands of GU late last year. Rollers are level on points with third placed Sua Flamingoes at 30 apiece.

The rookies are on song in their debut season under championship winning coach, Rahman Gumbo and registered their ninth win in 15 games with a 1-0 win over Masitaoka. Orapa United have dropped to fifth after losing 2-1 to Jwaneng Galaxy at home. It was the defending champions’ second win in five games as results have been hard to come by for Morena Ramoreboli’s side. Galaxy i placed just outside the top eight in ninth place. Extension Gunners got the better of their hoodoo side, Police XI with a comfortable 4-1 win to jump to 10th place. At the bottom, Mahalapye Railway Highlanders lost their 11th game at the hands of fellow strugglers, Mogoditshane Fighters. The Samba Boys however remain in the relegation position (14), a place higher than Notwane who played to a 1-1 draw with Security Systems.

On Friday, GU takes on Systems at the National Stadium as Fighters and Prisons face off at the Lobatse Sports Complex. Both games kick off at 6pm. In an 4pm kick off, Police XI will look to return to winning ways against Lions at the Otse Stadium. On Saturday afternoon, Masitaoka take on Galaxy at the VTM Stadium at 4pm.
