Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, said this Monday that the achievement achieved by the National Women’s Handball team is, clearly, the demonstration of what “we are capable” of doing better when working in an organized and determined way.
“I congratulate the African Handball champions for the resounding victory obtained in the African Handball Championship, recently held in Senegal. ”, wrote the President in his message posted on the website of the Presidency of the Republic.
He continued that the conquest fills the country with enormous joy: “I exhort all those who worked for this triumph, on and off the playing field, to continue along this path so that we continue to add victories in the future and, more than that, awakening and stimulating, in our youth, the desire to serve the Nation with pride on all fronts”.
The African champions who arrive in Luanda today won their 15th title of African champion on Saturday, which was held in Dakar, Senegal.
In the final of the 25th continental championship, the national team beat Cameroon by 29-19. This triumph, which puts Angola in the next World Cup, confirms the hegemony of women’s handball on the African continent, with 15 titles, a second position and two third places; in history, the Angolans lost only one final, in 1991, in the city of Cairo, Egypt.
