The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, in a message addressed to the Angolan Armed Forces, on the occasion of its 31st anniversary, marked this Sunday, highlighted the importance of the date, stressing that it “encloses a historical significance, which portrays a difficult stage in which we had to face complex challenges, where our survival as a free and independent country was at stake.

In the message, in which President João Lourenço, as Commander-in-Chief of the Angolan Armed Forces, congratulates all general officers, admirals, superiors, captains, subordinates, sergeants, soldiers and civilian workers, reiterates “the successes in fulfilling of the noble mission of guaranteeing the defense of our homeland”.

“Thanks to the bravery of the best children of Angola, we emerged victorious in this fight against the retrograde forces, who wanted to postpone the dream of freedom and self-determination of several generations of Angolans, who fought on the battlefields so that the country would remain intact. , allowing the turning of the page in the construction of the foundations of a prosperous Angola, towards a better future”, he underlines.

João Lourenço says that, despite the adverse situation we have been going through in recent times, derived from Covid-19 and its collateral effects on the social fabric, the Angolan Armed Forces, worthy depositories of the rich traditions of struggle and victory of “our people”, have known how to live up to their noble mission, showing an unwavering commitment to defending the sovereignty and integrity of the country’s soil, contributing to the consolidation of the Democratic State and Law that we are building, to the pride of all Angolans.

Today, he emphasizes, after more than three decades, the Nation is once again vibrating with pride, for the important achievements that the FAA have provided, in the preservation of peace and guarantee of national stability, a greater good that we have the obligation to consolidate, for the aggrandizement of “our country” and the promotion of the well-being of present and future generations.

The President of the Republic added that, for this purpose, “we will continue to invest in its gradual rejuvenation, in technical and material training and in improving the living, quartering, working and medical care conditions of the staff for their modernization, so that they can fulfill their mission with dignity”.

“I take this opportunity to pay the simplest tribute to all the valiant combatants who, in the different circumstances of the military environment, heroically fell, in favor of the defense of the homeland and the democratic institutions of the State”, he underlines. João Lourenço wishes a quick recovery and a brief return to the barracks, to the soldiers hospitalized in hospitals or at home.

The demonstration is extended to military inmates who for different reasons have been indicted for committing crimes, so that they can also take advantage of the moment of serving their sentences to redeem themselves. “Deprivation of liberty, despite being painful, is, above all, a moment of meditation that serves for the rehabilitation of the citizen, with a view to returning in the best shape and serving the country with a sense of responsibility, discipline, a spirit of mission and body”, he emphasizes.

President João Lourenço says that “the Nation will continue, as always, to count on the unshakable strength and determination of the Angolan Armed Forces, in all spheres of national life”. Thus, he also conveys a word of comfort and hope to the military graduates for retirement, reserve and availability, making it known that the Executive will continue to work on the implementation of concrete programs for their greater dignity.

For this reason, he continues, there is still a need to involve these brave fighters in socially useful tasks, integrated services to support community development, in teaching in Military Education Establishments, in the elaboration of Angola’s military history and in the transformation of museums, monuments and military sites in privileged spaces of scientific research and source of patriotic education for the new generation.

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, mentions, by the way, that, for this reason, the personnel are called upon to maintain resilience at all times, because “the military, from the soldier to the general, are and will continue to be the “Finally, I reiterate my warm congratulations, certain that “the Fatherland does not implore its children; it commands!”, he concludes.
