Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, received, this Thursday, a message from his counterpart from the Union of the Comoros, Azali Assoumani, within the framework of strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
The Minister of Defense of the Union of the Comoros, Yossoufa Mohammed Ali, delivered the missive, who, as the special envoy of the Head of State of this southern African country, was received at the Presidential Palace, in Luanda.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, Yossoufa Mohammed said that his government wanted to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the social and economic fields, on the basis of reciprocal advantages.

In this regard, according to the emissary, the Comorian Head of State, Azali Assoumani, current President-in-Office of the African Union (AU), seeks Angola’s support in the search for solutions to the conflicts that are still latent in various regions of Africa, with highlight for the Great Lakes Region and the Sahel.
“The President of the Comoros relies heavily on the support and advice of his Angolan counterpart for the stability of the continent in general, given his experience”, he explained.
Due to the diplomatic commitment demonstrated in the prevention, management and resolution of conflicts in Africa, President João Lourenço was named “AU Champion for Peace and Reconciliation in Africa” at the 16th African Union Summit on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa , held in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, on May 28, 2022.
The Union of the Comoros is the fourth smallest African country, located in Southern Africa, at the northern end of the Mozambique Channel, with an estimated population of 821,625 inhabitants.
