Africa-Press – Angola. The Head of State, João Lourenço, received a message from the President of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain, Pedro Sanchéz, delivered yesterday, at the Palácio da Cidade Alta, by the ambassador of that country to Angola, Maria Lejarreta Lobo, at a time when relations economies of the two countries moves more than one billion dollars.

The Spanish ambassador, without revealing the content of the message delivered to the Head of State, declared to the press that it is an “important letter”, in which the President of the Spanish Government addresses matters of extreme importance in the relations between the two Governments.

With the President of the Republic, Maria Lejarreta Lobo said that he took the opportunity to address “interesting questions” about the state of bilateral and regional relations, within the framework of political involvement in SADC and the Great Lakes. “It was a very interesting conversation, mainly based on the exchange of opinions”, she said.

The diplomat referred that, for the next five years, the Spanish Government wants to increase bilateral relations in the most varied areas, stressing the fact that the Kingdom of Spain has always maintained “good relations with Angola”.

“Relations between Angola and Spain have always been very friendly and very fluid”, he stressed, stating that he hopes they will solidify in the next five years.

Ambassador Maria Le-jarreta Lobo, asked in which sectors the kingdom would like to strengthen bilateral cooperation, only commented that Spain has maintained, for many years, a “consolidated” presence in Angola and, since the 1980s, cooperation aimed at sustainable growth, with mutual benefits.

He referred that bilateral trade is valued at between US$1,000 and US$100 million, with Angola exporting, mainly oil, while Spain sells various equipment.

Maria Lejarreta Lobo spoke of the “excellent” political dialogue between the two Governments, noting that “this climate has increasingly allowed the presence of Spanish companies on Angolan soil, working on development projects and on issues related to cooperation in the cultural domain”.

“We have the potential to work together in the next five years”, assured the Spanish diplomat. The President of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain, Pedro Sanchéz, has been in office since June 2018, having been appointed by King Philip VI at the time.
