Africa-Press – Angola. The Head of State, João Lourenço, reiterated, this Monday, that the General Hospital of Cuanza-Sul was named after Commander Raúl Argüelles as a form of homage “to all the sons of Cuba”.President João Lourenço, who had already explained that the Cuanza-Sul General Hospital would be named after the Cuban commander, during his State of the Nation address, reminded journalists that the decision “is a tribute to all the sons of Cuba who shed their blood on the battlefields in Angola, in solidarity defense of the Angolan people.”
On that occasion, the Head of State also highlighted the decisive importance of the battle, in which Raúl Díaz Argüelles lost his life, which would certainly have changed the course of the country’s history, which had just gained independence, if Angola had lost to the invading South African army. The President of the Republic also took the opportunity to compare the Battle of Ebo to the Battle of Kifangondo, in 1975, recalling that Kifangondo took place days before the proclamation of Angola’s Independence.
