Africa-Press – Angola. President João Lourenço begins a two-day visit to Cabinda province on Monday, as part of another open presidency cycle, the highlight of which will be the inauguration of the Cabinda Refinery.

The announcement was made this Sunday by Luís Fernando, Secretary for Institutional Communications of the Presidency of the Republic.

The inauguration of the Cabinda Refinery is considered a historic milestone, as it makes the province the first region in the country, outside of Luanda, to have a crude oil refining unit. After the inaugural ceremony, the Head of State will travel to the Caio deep-water terminal, where he will learn about the progress of the ongoing construction.

On Tuesday, the second and final day of the visit, João Lourenço will inaugurate the new headquarters of the Provincial Government of Cabinda, followed by a working meeting with the local government to assess the general condition of the province, highlighting the implementation of public works such as schools, roads, and health facilities.

The refinery’s inaugural ceremony marks the completion of the unit’s first phase and the beginning of the commissioning process, which precedes commercial production, estimated at 30,000 barrels/day.

The production and sale of fuels – such as diesel, jet fuel (Jet A1), heavy fuel oil, and naphtha – is expected to begin within approximately three months.

The President of the Republic is scheduled to return to Luanda on Tuesday afternoon.
