Africa-Press – Angola. Angolan Head of State, João Lourenço, stated that the Government will invest in the growth of eco-tourism in the province of Cuando, seeing it as a source of revenue to boost the region’s development.
During his address to the people of Mavinga, as part of his first official visit to the newly created province, resulting from the new political-administrative division, the President detailed that infrastructure investments will be made to encourage tourism.
He urged the population to preserve the fauna and flora, natural elements that constitute the province’s great tourism potential.
The province of Cuando was officially established on September 5, 2024, resulting from the division of the former province of Cuando-Cubango. It borders the Angolan provinces of Cubango (to the west) and Moxico (to the north), Zambia (to the east), and the Namibian regions of Zambezi and Kavango Oriental, to the southeast and south, respectively. It is traversed by the Cubango, Cuito, and Cuando rivers and is part of the Cubango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area, the largest of its kind in terms of land area in the world.
The north of the territory belongs to the dry miombo woodlands ecoregion, while the south is located in the Zambezian Baikiaea woodlands ecoregion.
The presidential visit is expected to usher in a new cycle of government attention to Cuando province, focusing on improving basic living conditions and consolidating local power structures.
