The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, traveled this Tuesday to Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, where he represents, today, the President of the Republic, at the 42nd ordinary summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Development Community. Speaking to the press, moments before leaving for the Congolese capital, the head of Angolan diplomacy said that the Kinshasa summit will also address issues that have to do with the implementation of agenda 20/63, economic integration and financial life. of the organization.

To journalists, Téte António spoke of Angola’s contribution to the pacification of the Great Lakes region, highlighting among the “many challenges” in Southern Africa, the military crisis still in force in the Republic of Mozambique.

The Foreign Minister informed that the event will also assess the performance of SADC in comparison with other regional economic units, as well as witness the handover of the presidency of the Malawi regional organization to the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The head of Angolan diplomacy highlighted, in the context of the passing of the testimony, the formation of the new bureau, in which Angola can occupy the vice-presidency.

He recalled that the summit in Kinshasa is taking place under the motto “Promotion of Industrialization, through Agro-Processing and Transformation of Mineral Resources and the Development of Regional Value Chains, in favor of Economic, Inclusive and Resilient Growth”, adding that this matter it will also be discussed at the African Union (AU) summit, taking place next November in Niamey.

For the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the summit in Kinshasa is of “particular importance”, noting that, on the sidelines, the African leaders who made Southern Africa a region faithful to its principles and one of the “strongest and most cohesive” communities will be honored, in terms of taking positions in the international arena. Among the various leaders to be decorated at the summit, highlighted the first President of Angola, António Agostinho Neto, in a ceremony that will be attended by his widow, Maria Eugénia Neto.

Regarding the conversation held with the US Secretary of State, Teté António explained that the contact was “positive”, as it addressed issues related to some African countries.

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) is an intergovernmental organization created in 1992 and dedicated to socio-economic cooperation and integration, as well as cooperation in policy and security matters.

The promotion of economic growth and development, the reduction of poverty, the increase of the population’s quality of life, peace and security, sustainable development, reinforcement and consolidation of cultural, historical and social affinities in the region are, among others, the objectives of the organization, comprising South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Seychelles.
