Africa-Press – Angola. The Angolan international, Helena Paulo, elected for the first time Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the African Cup of Nations (CAN), assured that the award is the result of dedicated work in the National Team and at 1o de Agosto.
The central, formed in the military team, also recognized the commitment of the group in winning the individual trophy. “First, I thank God for the distinction. Any high-level athlete dreams of being MVP. It is an achievement that fills me with pride. On the other hand, it demands greater delivery and determination from me. I also thank my colleagues, because without their support would not be possible. To the technical team, my heartfelt gratitude. They believed in my abilities, and so I was summoned to, once again, wear the colors of the National Team”.
Natália Bernardo and Juliana Machado were distinguished as the best left and right wingers in the competition. Liliana Venâncio won the award for best pivot. Ibrahim Omar (Egypt) is the competition’s top scorer.
Here is the composition of the ideal “seven” of the 25th edition of the African of Nations: goalkeeper, Bediang Ndelle Mben (Cameroon), left winger, Natália Bernardo, right winger, Juliana Machado, left winger, Karichma Ekoh (Cameroon) , right back, Babodga Ebanga (Cameroon), centre, Soukyna Sgan (Senegal) and center, Liliana Venâncio.
Unlike other CAN editions, individual distinctions were made in an abnormal way. When the scenario was almost dismantled, nobody understood why the organization hadn’t chosen the MVP yet.
Incredulous with the situation, many Social Communication professionals went to find out what was going on from the organization and, minutes later, the players received the trophies, however, without the usual ceremony.
