Africa-Press – Angola. Hospital do Prenda will be elevated to the category of hospital unit of national reference, in order to be able to provide a prompt response to the treatment of various pathologies, assured, yesterday, in Luanda, the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta.

The minister presented the proposal at the inauguration of the new Hemodialysis Center at Hospital do Prenda, estimated at five million US dollars and capable of treating 250 patients in three shifts.

“This amount will be paid in five installments, from the budget package of the Ministry of Health”, he clarified, in addition to adding that the dialysis of patients is the ministry’s bets, “which is why several public centers were opened for the treatment of this disease. pathology”.

The newly opened center, he assured, is part of a national program to increase the responsiveness in helping patients with chronic and acute renal failure. “The center, in addition to treating pre-established diseases, will continue to work on preventing complications such as hypertension, blood pressure, diabetes and malaria. The space has cutting-edge technology to be able to provide a humanized service to users”, he said. .

Alongside the Hemodialysis Center, he revealed, Hospital do Prenda will also treat highly complex diseases of the nephrology forum, a medical specialty dedicated to the diagnosis and clinical treatment of diseases of the urinary system.

Sílvia Lutucuta assured that, with the centre, the country will offer, for the first time, the peritoneal dialysis service, “a technique for replacing renal function, an alternative to hemodialysis, used when the patient already suffers from chronic renal failure”.

The place, he added, will also be used for the training of technicians in nephrology, as well as for research work on pathologies related to the kidneys. “In addition, we will continue to raise awareness of certain diseases and advise them to adopt healthier lifestyles,” he said.
