Africa-Press – Angola. The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, noted, this Sunday (3), the progress of the construction works of the future General Hospital of Ondjiva, in the Naipalala III neighborhood, since May 2021, which has a physical execution of 35 percent.
Accompanied by members of the Executive, President João Lourenço received detailed explanations from the technical team of the construction company MAKIBER regarding the current stage of the works.
The general director of the project, José Gil, said that the future General Hospital of Ondjiva has four inpatient units with a capacity of 250 beds, four operating theaters and new services such as a hemodialysis unit and a blood bank.
It also has a mammogram, a psychiatric room, a physical rehabilitation center, an oxygen factory, which did not exist in the old hospital. The General Hospital, to be built in an area of 30 square meters, will also have units for pediatric, obstetrics, endoscopy, biology, ophthalmology, stomatology, urgency, minor surgeries, X-ray, CAT and support areas.
Budgeted at 52 million euros, the new health unit, which will be delivered next June, will replace the old Ondjiva hospital, which was destroyed as a result of a large fire in October 2020, and is temporarily operating , in the premises of the Municipal Hospital of Cuanhama, in Ekuma. The construction of the hospital, whose works began in May 2021, directly created 180 jobs, mainly young people, in a region where the unemployment rate is quite high.
