Africa-Press – Angola. The management of the Provincial Library of Huambo needs at least three million Kwanzas/month to reinforce the bibliographic collection and provide more reading and research options to the academic community.
The information was provided this Thursday by the head of the institution, Herodina Afonso, who said that this need has conditioned research and the addition of more books for children and adults.
He referred that the Huambo Library does not have any amount for current expenses, except for the hygiene material that it receives, periodically, from the local office of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports.
According to the person in charge, as it is an academic city, this situation has delayed the achievement of many objectives set, which aim, mainly, to satisfy demand.
Among the library’s objectives, he pointed out obtaining more physical books, installing the internet and opening a cyber cafeĢ, to increase the range of research of the contents provided to users.
Despite this, Herodina Afonso said that a series of actions were underway to increase more books and other attractions, from the Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports office, with the aim of satisfying daily demand, which increased from 70 to 120 in recent months.
He said that the institution currently has 11,500 books, including children’s, academic and scientific books, with a satisfaction rate of 85 percent.
To equip the bibliographic collection, according to the person in charge, at least 30 thousand books are needed, in almost all areas of knowledge, with greater emphasis on Law, History of Angola and Geography, which would quickly be resolved if the institution received, monthly, a financial commitment of three million Kwanzas.
He appealed to universities to deposit their monographs at the institution in order to broaden the academic culture of young people interested in investigation and research.
Inaugurated in 2016, the Huambo Provincial Library has, among others, a collection, a reading room for adults and children, an auditorium and other essential facilities for its operation.
