Africa-Press – Angola. The province of Huíla will host the National Relay Championship on the 28th of this month, to be held in the Quilemba Centrality, in the municipality of Lubango, informed the vice-president of the Provincial Athletics Association, Augusto Diogo Seco.
In statements, the official highlighted that this will be the third time Huíla has hosted the competition, having already organized the two previous editions, an event that reinforces Huíla’s commitment to boosting athletics and promoting national competitions in the region.
DHe detailed that for this year, the organization decided to introduce some changes to the course layout, and so far the course has been measured, but the exact distances of each stage still need to be defined, a task that will be completed in the second inspection scheduled for the 20th.
According to Augusto Diogo Seco, in the men’s category, the athletes will compete in a total of 42 kilometers, corresponding to the marathon distance, distributed in six stages of 10, 5, 10, 5, 5 and 7 kilometers.
In the women’s category, the competition will be held over the half marathon distance (21 kilometers), divided into four stages, with four athletes, distributed in 5, 5, 5 and 6 kilometers.
As for the participating teams, the presence of Interclube de Luanda and 1o de Agosto is confirmed, while representing the host province will be Inter da Huíla, Benfica do Lubango and a provincial selection.
In total, the championship is expected to involve fewer than one hundred athletes, mostly specialists in long-distance and middle-distance running.
