Africa-Press – Angola. SinceTuesday, the Huíla Regional Museum has its first Folk Musical Score, donated by Duo CF & AB, to preserve the national intangible heritage, a piece already housed in the musical instrument exhibition area.

It is the score of the song “humbi humbi” and its phonographic recording on a pendrive , in the version by Filipe Mukenga, an “icon” of Angolan music. Folkloric singing represents cultural values of different peoples from southern and central Angola.

The lyrics feature the narration of two birds, the “umbi umbi” that flies high and the “kakele katchimamba”, that flies low, an allusion to the need to join forces to achieve results that benefit everyone.

The score features the composition of the song’s four instruments, namely the guitar, the steel guitar, the bass-recto and a conga to better guide people in the process of understanding and practicing music.

One of the promoters of the offer, Duo CF & AB, Ângelo Bié stated that this is a step that represents a “cultural leap”, as Angolan songs are rarely transcribed and the public has difficulties in having contact with a transcribed musical document.

He highlighted that it is a donation that gives the museum the possibility for people to have contact with the score, a record that remains for posterity, for future generations to have the possibility of accessing the document even many years from now.

He mentioned that it was difficult to write the score, taking almost a week to do so, as in addition to being a transcription work, it involved methods, techniques and research, due to the different versions of the song.

In turn, the Museum’s director, Angelina Sacalumbo, said it was a step towards one of the museum’s objectives, relating to the preservation of cultural, material and immaterial heritage.

He reinforced that they had long wanted to have “something” that represented Angolan popular music and the Duo came to donate the piece to promote intangible heritage, as well as the preservation of music itself in the region.

“The museum is in an era of forming partnerships with various groups and Duo is one of them, as cultural tourism has been gaining ground at a national and international level, so one of the platforms through which cultural tourism is promoted is music and Duo comes to create this link between music and culture”, he highlighted.

Museum signs cooperation protocol with Duo

The protocol aims to promote the dissemination of the culture represented by the Museum, through performances by Duo CF and AB and attract tourists through these publications. It lasts for two years, which can be automatically extended for the same period if there is interest between the parties.

Ângelo Bié explained that it was a partnership to help scientifically substantiate national culture in terms of music, bringing knowledge to be able to identify musical pieces, among other aspects.

“The museum has a room with its own musical instruments, and within this partnership we want to regularly offer scientific content in the area. It’s convenient for people to be able to use our instruments, find written records of them and still have all the physical documentation of our music,” he continued.

He made it known that the Duo has close to 80 scores of songs in different national music styles, which they intend to end with the publication of a songbook with close to 200 pages, with at least 70 songs, at the end of the year.

Regarding this partnership, director Angelina Sacalumbo said it is a mechanism that will help publicize the institution and boost national cultural tourism, one of the Executive’s long-term objectives.

The Duo CF & AB by artists Carlos Fernandes and Ângelo Bié, was created in November 2022 and makes so-called instrumental video covers of different styles of music, with the purpose of entertaining and educating, so that nationals and foreigners can get to know popular music national and study it, so the work focuses on scores, tablatures and backtrackings.

The focus is also on entertainment, as they participate in galas and shows.
