Africa-Press – Angola. Six students from the energy and electrical installations course at the Polytechnic Institute of Humpata, in Huíla, created a prototype of an “environmentally friendly” electric motorbike, presented at the talent fair of the 5th National Meeting of Schools Associated with UNESCO.
It is a prototype of an ecological motorbike with a gross weight of 80 kilograms to initially travel 40 kilometers/hour and carried out in three months by the six final year students of the technical course, aged 20 and 21, and was revealed this Tuesday- fair.
When talking about the prototype, the group’s coordinator, Faustino Jorge, stated that the motorbike is completely electric and does not need fuel for movement, depending solely on a rechargeable battery.
He highlighted that because the country does not yet have a market for electronic materials to make electric motorbikes, they were forced to recycle some equipment, namely a vehicle’s alternator, transformed into an engine.
“To execute the prototype, all made with local materials, we spent more than 400 thousand kwanzas, including tubes, tires, lighting systems, among others. We also use basic elements as a controller to drive variations in quantities, such as voltage, current, speed and every item on the control panel necessary in the vehicle,” he explained.
He highlighted that the vehicle takes an hour to charge and can be on the move for up to three hours, meaning that afterwards there is a need to install electrical recharging stations, similar to conventional fuel pumps.
The incentive to carry out the project, according to the inventor, comes from the purpose of minimizing the use of combustion vehicles that cause “enormous” environmental pollution, as the motorbike does not emit polluting gases, in addition to being silent in operation.
To expand the work, according to the young man, they are waiting for investments to modernize the vehicle, with equipment and thus be able to have users of electric motorbikes and thus also reduce the use of fossil fuels.
“With a good investment we were able to export material from outside Angola and have a motorbike that can reach 100 to 180 kilometers/hour”, he reported.
In turn, the professor who followed the process, Ingola Francisco, said that the Government can support the students’ initiative, by providing scholarships to young people to continue developing the project.
The 5th National Meeting of Schools Associated with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), runs until the 30th of the current month, under the motto “In education we are one” and its central theme is “The education and teaching system for a culture of peace and global citizenship”.
