Africa-Press – Angola. A magazine with 348 different weapons, including anti-personnel mines and a rifle, was identified in the town of Luzí, 130 kilometers from the city of Luena, in Moxico province, by a hunter.
The information was passed this Tuesday by the provincial representative of the National Mine Action Agency (ANAM) in Moxico, Chile, Manuel Chicanha, when he was carrying out the assessment of the activities carried out in the first quarter of the current year.
According to the person in charge, the said magazine was found by a hunter from that locality, who alerted the authorities about the existence of military equipment for the destruction process.
He explained that a total of 273 anti-personnel mines, unexploded explosive devices, 17 mortar rifles, an equal number of fuzes, 16 PKM-type weapons, 13 detonators, among other means, were found in the magazine.
During this period, he continued, 17 mine accidents were recorded in the municipalities of Moxico (provincial headquarters), Camanongue and Bundas, which resulted in three deaths and 10 serious and minor injuries.
He added that in that period of time, 430,430 square meters of land were demined in three of the nine municipalities that make up the province of Moxico, by the National Demining Institute (INAD), the Division of Engineering and Infrastructure of the Military Region.
The Seventh Demining Brigade of the Security House of the President of the Republic and the Mines Consulting Group (MAG) also participated in this operation, having found and destroyed 1,909 unexploded explosive devices, 1,500 rounds of ammunition of various calibers, 58 anti-tank and 18 anti-personnel mines.
With 223 thousand 23 square meters, the province of Moxico was the scene of several military combats, during the civil war that marked the country’s history for 27 years.
