Africa-Press – Angola. A single leader in Mozambique, Venâncio Mondlane, teaches lessons that will never be forgotten on the African continent and the world. His courage and willingness to fight for noble causes contrast sharply with the reality of Angolan politics.

Angolan leaders seem to be too cautious to take risks. For them, accepting sacrifice for a noble cause, as a leader should be, is something that is not often seen. Normally, leaders should function as oxen pulling the carriage that represents the people, but this dynamic seems to be absent.

It is easy to imagine someone saying, “You come here and put yourself in charge of the people.” However, this view ignores the complexity of governance. The well-being of a country depends not only on those in power, but also on the engagement and courage of all its citizens.

Personally, I have never been one to “cook funge” for anyone. Whoever wants funge can cook it themselves. It is interesting to note that my children do not eat funge, and some of them do not even know if it is pena or not; this is of little importance in this chronicle.

What I am certain of is that if what is happening in Mozambique were to happen in Angola, I already know which leader would be the first to flee. It would not be surprising to see him being helped to escape by friends and family within the MPLA, something that has happened before.

Thus, while Mondlane inspires courage and sacrifice, Angolan politics remains in a dynamic where personal security seems to prevail over responsibility and the fight for a better future.
