Africa-Press – Angola. The administrator of the Institute for the Management of Assets and State Participations, Raimundo Santa Rosa, suggested, in Porto Amboim, Cuanza Sul province, greater interaction with the Port Company of Porto Amboim EP, taking into account its potential.
The administrator, who was speaking at the end of a visit to that company, said that “we are at a crucial stage and there is every need for follow-up”, which is why greater interaction with companies is needed.
“We are pleased about the increase in revenues, in relation to operating costs, in the sense that the deficit was above 50 percent and today it is close to 10 percent”, he indicated, without specifying the financial figure.
In the same vein, he highlighted that “this is a gain that results from the Executive’s strategy, since the recapitalization of the Port aims to help emerging problems that are essential for the operations of a Commercial Port, such as the recovery of the pier, dredging and a tugboat.
For 2023, Empresa Portuária do Amboim EP established as a priority, according to its Chairman of the Board of Directors, Francisco Fernandes, the dredging of the quays to facilitate maritime navigation and stimulate commercial activity in Porto Amboim, as well as the granting of licenses for private operators.
History of the Commercial Port
The first pier bridge at the Commercial Port of Porto Amboim, with a length of 115 metres, was built in 1927, but in 1956 a new pier bridge of the same length was built.
Since 2010, the Company has had four PCAs.
A new project, drawn up in 2017, aimed at building a new modern commercial port, in an area of 80 hectares and 30 hectares of dry port, whose pier bridge would initially receive two ships simultaneously and in the final phase seven ships.
For the physical execution of these projects, preliminary environmental and tidal impact studies have already been carried out.
The aforementioned port would be built by a consortium composed of Sonangol Holding and Sogester with a 70 percent share of the capital and the remainder with private capital.
