Africa-Press – Angola. Angola will implement, from the 10th of this month, a new vehicle registration system, aiming to reinforce road safety in the country.

The new standardized registration plate contains security elements, such as the QR code, the security tape, the serial number, among other data, which will allow the owner of the vehicle to be easily identified, in the event of an investigation, for example.

The new registration model also includes the print of the national flag, the month and year in which the respective vehicle identification plate was issued.

Speaking to Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA), deputy commissioner Mateus Rodrigues clarified that vehicles with current license plates will continue to have the same numbers, but will have two years to replace the old plates with new ones, a process that will be carried out in a phased manner and by series.

“Drivers who already have their vehicles registered will have a period of two years to replace only the number plate, without changing the number. To this end, we will define, through a plan or calendar, the series that should make the switch within a given period, with a view to completing this process over the two years,” he added.

It clarified that vehicles to be registered will receive a new registration number (alpha numeric).

According to the source, the launch of the new registration model marks a “historic step in the regularization of registration plates in Angola”, that is, these vehicle identification plates will no longer be made on any corner or location, without complying with the rules defined by law.

He stated that this practice is a thing of the past, because there are currently around 80 companies in the country dedicated to making registration plates.

Regarding the price defined for obtaining the new registration, the deputy director of Communication of the National Police, Mateus Rodrigues, said that the initial registration continues to have the same price list, announced in September 2023, when the ‘Title of the Vehicle’.

According to the deputy commissioner, the companies will charge the market price, estimated at 50 thousand kwanzas, a value that must still be assessed from the companies dedicated to the purpose of the new registration.
