Africa-Press – Angola. Three thousand and 185 cases of violence against children have been registered, since 2018, in the province of Uíge, by the National Children’s Institute (INAC), said Wednesday, the director of the institution in the region, Rosária Alfredo .

The most reported cases are sexual abuse, evasion of parenthood, child labor and mistreatment, with the municipalities of Uíge, Negage, Maquela do Zombo and Sanza Pombo having the most occurrences.

The official made this statement while speaking at the forum of the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Equality, which took place under the motto “Municipalize the 11 Commitments to improve and protect children”.

In order to reduce cases of violence against children, INAC in Uíge has held lectures in churches, schools and other public places, aiming to sensitize families about the need to protect children.

He explained that INAC created, in 2006, in the municipalities of Uíge, Songo and Mucaba, a child protection network and transmission of knowledge to the population about the importance of a culture of denouncement in cases of aggression and other crimes against children.

On her turn, the director of the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Equality of Uíge, Arminda Fernando Felipe, explained that the objective of the forum is to prepare the 8th National Forum for Social Action, as well as to assess the degree of compliance with the municipalization of the 11 children’s commitments.

According to the report presented by Social Action, the institution controls 16,705 orphaned children and suspects that 64 have lived on the street, because they were accused of witchcraft.

As for the monetary social transfer program “Valor Criança”, he says that it benefited 5,122 families.
