Africa-Press – Angola. On Saturday, in New Delhi, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the approval of a credit line, valued at 200 million dollars, for the modernization of the Angolan Army. The head of the Indian Government, who was speaking during a meeting with his Angolan counterpart, revealed that he had discussed with President João Lourenço the repair and supply of equipment for the Defense sector.

“We will be happy to provide support and carry out training for the Angolan Armed Forces and, thus advancing our development partnership, we will share our capabilities in the areas of public digital infrastructure and space capacity, as well as capacity building”, also highlighting the signing of agreements in the areas of health care, supply of diamonds, fertilizers and critical minerals.

Narendra Modi highlighted that the presence of President João Lourenço in New Delhi gives a new direction and impetus to relations between Angola and India, but also strengthens the country’s partnership in Africa.“This is a historic moment and it is after 38 years that the President of the Republic of Angola is visiting India,” said Narendra Modi during his speech, praising the fact that both countries are celebrating 40 years of diplomatic relations.

“However, our relations are older and deeper than that. When Angola was beginning its struggle for liberation, India also stood by Angola with full faith and friendship. There is close cooperation between us in various sectors and India is among the largest buyers of oil and gas from Angola,” added the head of the Indian Government.

The Indian Prime Minister congratulated Angola on assuming the presidency of the African Union, stressing that it was a “source of pride” that, during India’s presidency of the G-22, the continental organization became a permanent member of the G-20.

India and African countries, the head of the Indian government said, stood up in one voice against colonial rule, emphasizing the mutual inspiration that allowed them to walk together “as a voice for interest and hopes and expectations”.
