Africa-Press – Angola. The general director of the Gaming Supervision Institute (ISJ), in Angola, Paulo Ringote, defended, in Luanda, the need to adopt and maintain measures for the practice of responsible gaming.
Available data indicate that accumulated revenue from the gaming sector, in the first six months of 2023, stood at more than four billion kwanzas.
Speaking at the opening of the seminar on “Gaming activities and their impact on society: prevention and mitigation of excesses”, representing the Secretary of State for Finance, Ottoniel dos Santos, he highlighted that alignment depends on the healthy development of the sector.
He stressed that there are stricter access criteria, aligned with preventing and combating the phenomenon of money laundering and that gambling in Angola occurs under the sign of responsible gambling.
The Secretary of State for Family and Promotion of Women, Alcina da Cunha Kindanda, considered that despite the awareness of the potential for generating public revenue, it is necessary to continue playing an important role, at this time of redefinition of the Executive’s policy for the sector .
In his opinion, the awareness of the proportionality of the negative effects of the impulsive practice of gambling, often associated with the consumption of drugs and alcohol, which has torn apart the heritage of many families and “separated from a healthy life of thousands of citizens, especially , in the country’s capital.”
If on the one hand, he continued, the complexity of the market is a fact, largely due to the specificity of the sector and its strong dynamism, it is equally true the magnitude of the challenges placed in the hands of the regulator, “as it requires more monitoring of new trends in the international market, with a view to responding in a timely manner and to the extent of the challenges that arise”.
The president of the Gaming Association (Ajogos), Henriques Doroteia, highlights that the gaming sector employs six thousand direct jobs and more than a thousand indirect jobs, contributing to society with immediate effects on the economy and families.
He highlighted that gambling controlled by the State appears as a source of wealth and allows the creation of several jobs.
“Gaming can create habituation in some individuals, it is estimated at around 00.5%, but in the same way that other activities can also cause it, including work dependence (compulsive work) or highly generalized purchases in society”, he said.
He added that, to date, Angola presents itself as a mere importer and consumer of the technology inherent to the game, but Angola should take advantage of the window of opportunities that presents itself and allow the emergence of the gaming industry, with investment in the manufacture of various equipment. game and introduction of all cutting-edge technologies associated with various types of games.
According to him, the gaming industry, when introduced in Angola, will allow its export to the African continent, at very competitive prices, with undeniable benefits in the job market and the Angolan economy.
“Ajagos wishes to see positive developments with the reduction of the special gaming tax to an average value of between 16 and 18% of gross revenue, and Ajagos is fully available to collaborate with the institute”, he reinforced.
